Money, debt and benefits advice



There are several ways that you can get independent financial advice:

  • Speak to an independent Shelter advisor at the Melin offices or arrange a home visit
  • Housing Debt Helpline Wales or you can phone 0800 107 1340
  • Shelter Cymru  or you can phone 0845 075 5005
  • or contact your local Citizens Advice
  • www.direct.gov.uk can give you advice on benefits, debt 
  • The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) is a national debt charity with over 18 years’ experience helping people with their debt problems. They can advise you on priority bills, budgeting and the range of debt solutions available to you. If appropriate for your situation, they can also provide a free debt management plan. Visit their online counselling service - CCCS Debt Remedy. This service is available 24 hours a day to give you free, anonymous and instant debt advice.

If you are having difficulties in repaying your mortgage you should contact your local council's housing department. Their Housing Options team, homelessness team or housing officers will be able to explain whether they can help you with the mortgage rescue scheme.
