Care and Repair - Monmouthshire
Care & Repair Monmouthshire is a non-profit making home improvement service for older people within the
We aim to enable older people to live in greater safety, security, comfort and independence.
We achieve this by helping to arrange repairs, improvements or adaptations to the homes of older people, as well as providing advice and signposting to many other services, such as the Bobby Van Scheme, Home Energy Efficiency Scheme, Fire Service, Occupational Therapy, etc.
There are many reasons why older homeowners may feel unable to carry out work to make their homes better suited to their needs and our team of caring, friendly staff offer free advice and practical help, from arranging small adaptations to carrying out larger repairs or improvements.
What Care & Repair Monmouthshire can do for you:
Care & Repair works in partnership with the local council and health board, as well as a number of other agencies, to deliver a range of services to meet your needs.
Minor adaptations
In most cases we are able to access funding towards the cost of minor adaptations costing up to £350.
Major adaptations
We can help you through the process of applying for a Disabled Facilities Grant, filling in forms, drawing up a technical specification, obtaining tenders and inspecting work prior to payment. Disabled Facilities Grants are means tested and we can give advice on whether you qualify.
Repairs and improvements
Our Caseworker and Technical Officer can help you to manage the process of carrying out building work to your home. Usually you have to meet the cost yourself but we can help you by diagnosing the problem, producing a schedule of work, getting quotes, finding a builder and inspecting the work before you pay the bill.
In some special circumstances we are able to help to raise funds where you are unable to meet the cost yourself.
Sometimes you will be happy to arrange the work yourself but need help to identify a suitable contractor. We maintain a list of ‘approved’ contractors that we can suggest. These are contractors who have provided information to assure us that they are bona fide and we carry out checks to ensure that they are providing quality work.
Home Safety Check
Our Healthy at Home project aims to offer a Home Safety check to every citizen of Monmouthshire aged 75 and over. The check is carried out in your own home by a Care & Repair officer. The check looks at home security, fire safety, slips, trips and falls, welfare benefits and energy efficiency. We are able to arrange for measures to improve your safety and security, usually free of charge.
CareLine
We install CareLine sensors on behalf of Monmouthshire County Council. CareLine sensors can help you to raise the alarm if you are unable to do so yourself. The sensors can be used to raise the alarm in the event of you suffering a fall, fire, flood, etc.
