Melin is committed to taking positive steps to combat discrimination

As an employer and service provider we are dedicated to taking positive steps to tackle discrimination and reduce disadvantage experienced by individuals and groups.

Melin wholeheartedly accepts its statutory responsibilities and is committed to extending principles laid down in law to individuals or groups who are discriminated against or treated unfairly.  What's more though, we devote a great deal of time to seeing how we can continually improve in relation to equal opportunities.  

Every member of staff is responsible for making sure that our Equal Opportunity policy is put into practice. We will ensure that our staff are fully aware of their responsibilities and are properly equipped to take into account individuals of differing needs when providing services on our behalf.

In order that the policy is applied as widely as possible, we will ensure that all individuals and organisations who provide services on our behalf can demonstrate a similar commitment to our own above and that they have procedures in place to ensure equality of opportunity.

Discrimination and harassment by an individual or organisation that provides services on our behalf is unacceptable. Should any complaint of discrimination or harassment be made against a member of staff, a contractor or a service provider, or should they suffer discrimination or harassment themselves, we should be advised immediately. The matter will be investigated straight away and, if the allegation is upheld, action will be taken which could result in:

• Disciplinary proceedings against members of staff
• Removal from the Melin's panel of approved contractors and loss of all current contracts and works
• Action against residents under the tenancy agreement
• A report of the allegations being passed to the organisations who have statutory responsibility for investigating and acting on equal opportunity matters
