Children in Gwent have been given the chance to shine a little brighter thanks to a boost from the Melin Jump Fund. Melin have sponsored the creation of a CD of Theatre Arts: Get Involved (TARGET) latest project Sparkle and Shine!, a new musical written in aid of the Sparkle Appeal.

‘Sparkle and Shine!’ teaches themes of respect, tolerance and the unbreakable bond of friendship by following the story of Leo the Star. It is the newest venture from Early Music Makers, an initiative run by not-for-profit theatre company TARGET, which focuses on the development of educational musicals to help teach performing arts. Through work like this, TARGET aims to make performing arts more accessible and encourage children to live healthier lifestyles.

CDs of Sparkle and Shine! will initially be made available to schools across South East Wales, to be used as part of their performing arts curriculum and hopefully as their school musical. Schools will receive a free copy of the musical, and are asked to make small donation to the Sparkle Appeal to help support the important work of the charity. The Sparkle Appeal, an appeal on behalf of the South Gwent Children’s Foundation, is a local charity aiming to raise money to equip a bespoke facility in Rogerstone to help with the care of children with complex disabilities.

Emma Rowland, Director of TARGET, was very pleased with them CDs, “Thanks to the generous support of Melin Homes and its Jump Fund, TARGET has been able to produce high-quality CD sleeves containing the Sparkle and Shine! musical in aid of The Sparkle Appeal. Copies will shortly be available to every primary school from Blaenau Gwent, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen, and we hope that this will raise awareness of The Sparkle Appeal. We are grateful to Melin for its fantastic support".
