Jason Hughes, 17, from Cwmtillery is the latest person to improve his job prospects with Melin Work’s newest project. Thanks to his time spent with Stepping Stones, taking part in a work taster with Greenhill Construction, Jason has now been offered an Apprenticeship to continue his training as a Bricklayer.

Jason completed his Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying, but needed a work placement for level 2. Stepping stones arranged work taster sessions for him with Greenhill Construction on Melin’s development site at Mountain Road, Ebbw Vale and they were so impressed they offered him a placement.

“You have to be employed and get practical experience on the job to take your Level 2 Diploma” Jason told us, “This is something that I was finding difficult before.”

“It’s great to get some practical experience and I would definitely recommend the scheme. I don’t know what I would be doing without it, and I’m really looking forward to starting my apprenticeship.”

Greenhill’s Site Manager Kevin Beckitt was very impressed with Jason: “His application to the job is excellent and I wish Jason every success in his apprenticeship.”

Anthony King, Contracts Managers for Greenhill echoed this, saying “We already employ 11 apprentices and enjoy working with these young guys and watching them qualify into their different trades. We’re very happy to be a part of the next level and are looking forward to him returning to work.”
