Rachel’s saving money thanks to her new home
Clos y Goedlan resident Rachel Kitaszewski, 32, from Pontypool, is benefitting from the energy saving features in her new flat. She moved into the development in Garndiffaith in July 2011 and is very happy with the amount of money she is saving off her fuel bills
“I had to move because of forced circumstances, but it was the best thing that could have happened, and I’m really happy where I am now” said Rachel.
“In my old flat I had storage central heating which would heat up over night and would be released during the day. But I had no control over the temperature levels and it was often freezing”
“Now I have a combination boiler and the flat is airtight. I do notice that I’m saving money, as compared to where I used to live, my home is heated much more efficiently”
Rachel’s new home is also fitted with a Heat Recovery Central Ventilation system which sucks out moist air to prevent condensation. The system extracts the heat from the outgoing air and uses this to warm the incoming fresh air, so stale or damp air is constantly being replaced by warmed filtered air. “Even condensation from the shower and cooking is used, so I don’t need as much heating and it’s proving very cost effective.”
“My bills have been significantly reduced and the purified air makes the flat feel fresh.”
She is also saving money thanks to the water saving features such as low volume taps and showers, and water butts in the garden so water can be recycled.
