Welcome to Melin’s new Chair
Melin Homes officially welcomed its new Chair Margaret Spencer at a recent meeting of its Board. Margaret is replacing Doiran Jones, who has stepped down after 5 years service as Melin’s Chairman.
Margaret Spencer has been a Board Member for the last 8 years, and spent her working life as a Rural Homes Economics Lecturer and prior to that as a Resource Manager for Carmarthan Social Services.
“As Chair I will do my utmost to continue the development of Melin. Apart from the construction of new houses I am particularly interested in initiatives that enable people to develop their own potential and enhance their lives.
There are many burning issues in the sector; Welfare Reform and ever decreasing housing grants to name a few. I know I am a cog in a very much larger machine but I am sure by working together board, staff and residents we can achieve our goal”, said Margaret.
Margaret replaces Doiran Jones, who has served as a Board Member for thirty years and will continue to do so now he has stepped down as Chair. Doiran says his passion for housing stems from his youth. He said: “Housing has been the cornerstone of my life since I was younger and I realised how lucky I was to have a house.”
Melin Homes Chief Executive Mark Gardner said, “I’d like to thank Doiran for his many years of service at the helm of the Melin Board. He has been our Chairman since Melin was formed in 2007, and he has done a great job in that time. I would also like to welcome Margaret – her experience as a Board Member and her knowledge of the social care sector will be invaluable to us as Melin continues to grow.”
