Panel News Update
The hard work of the Panel in 2007/08 resulted in them receiving a Volunteer of the Year Award (Highly Commended) by the Welsh Council for Voluntary Action.
Open meetingThe Panel has arranged s series of open meetings throughout the year aimed at giving all residents a chance to air their views and raise any queries.
The next one is at 7pm, on 27 November at the YMCA in Pill, Newport..
Key members of Melin staff will join the Panel and will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Launch of Youth Achievement Award
The Panel have introduced this award aimed at recognising the special achievements of our younger residents.
Parents or neighbours are invited to nominate young people under the age of 18 to win the award by providing details of any special achievements they have made. This can be in any field including sport, education, art, helping the environment, or people in their families or community.
The achievements of one boy and one girl will be recognised each September when they will be awarded with a £50 voucher and a shield at the Panel’s annual general meeting.

Improvement funding now available
Melin resident’s can apply to the Panel for funding of up to £100 for items or work that will improve their environment.
Five awards are made each month and can be used to buy plants or garden furniture for individual gardens or communal areas, or to help fund improvements such as disabled access and security measures.
Landscape residents wanted
Would you like to help oversee the work of contractors carrying out garden works in your area/scheme? If so, why not volunteer to be a landscape resident. The role includes making sure communal gardens are looked after and reporting any issues to the Panel. Email us - residentspanel@melinhomes.co.uk to find out more.
