Melin Homebuy is thrilled to share the news that we have completed the sale of our properties on the new Blue Lake Close development in Ebbw Vale. The development was brought to fruition through a partnership between Melin Homes, Lovell, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and Welsh Government.

The development has seen a total of 100 homes constructed on the former quarry off Waun-Y-Pound Road, with a mixture of open-market, social housing and Homebuy shared equity homes being made available.

Melin Homebuy, formerly NowYourHome, has overseen the sale of two affordable homes at Blue Lake Close, including that of Peter Hughes. Mr Hughes moved to Blue Lake Close in December 2021 and was really pleased with his new home.

I am thrilled with my new home at Blue Lake Close and am really pleased with the service I had from Melin Homebuy. Melin helped make the whole process as smooth as possible and the aftercare service I have received from Lovell has been excellent too.

Phil Parfitt, Melin Homebuy’s team leader was also pleased about how the development had concluded. He said: “The Blue Lake Close development in Ebbw Vale shows how Melin have successfully worked in partnership with Blaenau Gwent Council, Lovell and Welsh Government to create this inclusive new community.

“To hear how pleased Mr Hughes is with his new home is fantastic and is a real boost to our hard-working team.”

He added: “The Homebuy Team assists clients into home ownership across five Local Authority areas, who can access and afford a mortgage but are struggling to get onto the property ladder. The scheme is designed to make home ownership more affordable by providing an interest free equity loan, typically between 30 and 50% of the property market value. We offer additional support when the homeowner eventually sells the property or wishes to remortgage.”

Speaking about the rebrand from NowYourHome to Melin Homebuy, Phil said: “As from the 1st of April we are delighted to have rebranded our name to Melin Homebuy. Everything else remains as before apart from the name change and we look forward to working with new and existing clients going forward.”

The development would not have been possible without the close partnership between housing stakeholders.

Tara Lane, Connected Communities Team Manager said: “Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council are delighted to be working in partnership with Melin Homes, Lovell and Welsh Government to bring much needed quality homes to the area.

Homes are at the heart of every sustainable neighbourhood and this wonderful opportunity through the Home Buy Scheme is at the very centre of the community and is greatly benefiting the residents of Bleanau Gwent.
