Melin member Trish and Councillor Giles Davies

This week our schools Programme – FACE made a large donation to Councillor Giles Davies' Back 2 School scheme in Torfaen.

We donated 250 pencil cases, 100 notepads, 120 sharpeners, 100 rulers, 120 glue sticks, 50 scientific calculators and 2,500 pens! Our donation was worth nearly £900 in value.

Manager of our schools Project Trisha Hoddinott said: “We may not be able to take our schools programme into classrooms at the moment, but we are so pleased we can still help and make a difference.”

Councillor Giles Davies said of the donation: “Wow, I really didn’t expect so many items, thank you so much. All of the items will be donated to Garnteg Primary for children whose parents are finding it difficult to provide equipment during Covid-19.”

Our schools programme is still continuing to help schools and since we launched the project, we’ve helped 2,932 pupils, 477 teachers and 32 schools.

We are still here to offer help and advice for teachers and pupils – our service will just look a little different. We have been reaching out to our partnership schools and are keen for teachers to let us know how we can support them. Some of the new ideas we are launching, which will all be offered online are; Student interview techniques, career talks, virtual career lessons, webinars of how we have had to change as a business and wellbeing workshops.

The future may look a little different but we are still here to support our schools, teachers and pupils. If you are interested in our schools programme and are based in: Newport; Blaenau Gwent; Torfaen; Monmouthshire or Powys please get in touch by emailing
