107 year old her daughter and scheme manager

Our oldest resident recently celebrated her 107th birthday. Lilian Handley is still living independently at our Newport sheltered scheme St Mary’s Court. She received a telegram from the Queen and celebrated at home with her family. Lillian has lived at the sheltered scheme since it was built over 35 years ago She is pictured with her daughter Marina and scheme manager Claire Boshein.

Lillian was born on July 27 1912 in the Rhondda Cynon Taf mining village of Penrhiwceiber. In that year George V was on the throne and the Prime Minister was HH Asquith. It was the year the Titanic sank and also the year that Zips were invented.

Everyone at Melin would like to wish Lilian a very happy birthday and all the best for another healthy and happy year.
