Growing the Llanfoist Community

Nestled on the fringes of Abergavenny lies the village of Llanfoist which is home to The Grove, a new housing development brought to life by Candleston, a subsidiary of Melin Homes. The inaugural phase of the development, comprising 42 elegant homes, has been made possible thanks to £5 million of funding secured from Principality Commercial, an arm of Principality Building Society.

The idyllic Monmouthshire village setting, with its lush surroundings, serves as the canvas for this new community. Upon completion of all three phases, The Grove will feature 69 homes for open market sale, with eligibility for the Help to Buy Wales scheme. There are then an additional 37 homes which will be made available as affordable housing. All of this will help to address the chronic shortage of homes in the area.

Variety is the spice of life and that is certainly the case at The Grove. As well as a range of different designs, the homes on the development include terraced, semi-detached, and detached houses, ensuring plenty of choice for homebuyers. Prices for open market houses on the site begin from £240,000.

Scott Rooks, the Commercial Director at Candleston Homes, was very pleased with Candleston’s new relationship with Principality Commercial and what it has led to in Llanfoist He said: "This was our first funding deal with Principality Commercial, and even though the economic conditions were challenging at times, we worked in partnership to help deliver the scheme.

It has been great to see the residents move into their new homes, and we look forward to the completion of phases two and three over the next 12 months. It's a pleasure to work with a funding partner that has the same ethos of generating homes and building communities.

Jan Quarrington, the Social Housing Manager at Principality Commercial, also expressed her enthusiasm for this transformative partnership. She said: "We're delighted to have supported Candleston’s new development [near] Abergavenny.

As a member-owned organization, helping people prosper in their homes is at the heart of what we do, and The Grove supports just that, providing new affordable and open market homes for communities in the Abergavenny [area].
