It was good to be back

The sun shone on us as we hosted our sixth Zest in the Park event, our first one since 2019 and we were so glad to be back. We think our visitors were too as hundreds of people joined us for a free family fun day on Playday the National Day for Play.

We were supported by our partners from County in the Community and Dragons Rugby who entertained visitors with a goal shooting challenge. A huge congratulations to Kian who won, receiving a signed football and tickets for a Dragons Rugby game.

Oren our healthy Zest mascot joined in all the fun and even scored a goal, will Oren be asked to play for Newport County soon? We hope so!

Zest in the Park featured several stalls from us, as well as Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Torfaen Sports Development brought along their climbing wall. We had plenty of entertainment with a bouncy castle, face painting with Irene, Petrena relaxed people with massages, Shaun the magician wowed with his magic and balloon animals by Amanda was a firm favourite.

Green Meadow Community Farm joined us with a number of animals for a meet-and-greet while Cycle Training Wales ensured visitors’ bikes were in tip-top condition with a free service.

Visitors commented on how fantastic the event was and how in these tough times everything being free meant so much to people and their families, especially the addition of free fruit and goodies supplied by us.

Natasha a Melin resident for over 10 years joined us with three-week-old Benjamin who we think could possibly be the youngest Zest in the Park attendee we have had, and what a cutie.

I have four children, and this is an event for all the family. It is fantastic that Melin do this for everyone it makes such a difference.

To finally be back after three years (due to the pandemic) was such an amazing feeling. Melin Staff and our partners make this event so special, seeing everyone enjoy today and having so much fun is why we hold these events. Now, more than ever supporting the local community with free family fun is so important. We will start planning next year soon and have lots of new ideas to make the event even bigger and better.
